Numerous people have difficulties discovering Careers that suit them. They aren’t often happy in a job and usually aren’t decided on what they want to be doing when it comes to Career Choices. Admittedly getting New Careers is no straightforward task, nobody can just walk into a great role with good wages to go with it. My story is no different, I was sick of work until I found my place in search engine optimisation. I’m hopeful my Career Choices in SEO will keep me going for a good long time and would like to show my experiences for anyone hoping for encouragement.
My story starts within a call centre employed by a rather large and well known broadband supplier. I was on the technical assistance team, receiving countless amounts of calls, fixing the same dull problems with the same frustrated customers, day in, day out. The job was OK at first, certainly not a first choice when it comes to New Careers, but it was sufficient to get me by. The problem was, the management became more and more strict, targets were raised to absurd levels and we were in the end made to use a scripted program to assist customers, which was even more annoying because you knew without it, you’d be more resourceful on calls. It wasn’t until I ultimately lost my job here that I was able to progress to greater things.
It’s strange really how most of us won’t take action to find New Careers until our current one is in danger. If I had of bothered sooner, I could have been out of that terrible call centre, it was just laziness really and there was no reason for it. Needless to say, once I was out of the job, I was in a difficult spot financially and so was searching for Careers frantically. It wasn’t until my money had more or less ran out that I discovrered what seemed like a dream come true. I had spotted a position in SEO, which is basically optimising websites for businesses so that they show on page one of Google. What made this so attractive was, it was working from home, and had a potential pay of more than twice what I was on in the call centre.
As you can probably imagine, at this step I was a bit nervous, was I actually going to be able to make such a huge jump in my Careers? Many people would be fighting their way up to such a salary. Luckily, it turned out such a jump was feasible, as the role was actually self employed, but working under the name of the franchise. Salary and working times were my own to create, I couldn’t believe it, it was such an ideal opportunity. The only difficulty was the initial training costs, I normally would have passed on such things, but this was too perfect to pass on, so I scrounged together what I could to afford it.
If you too are miserable at work, or know you can do better, why hold it off? Don’t hold on until what happened to me comes about. There are countless Careers to choose from out there, put the time in and make a change. My new job is off to a great start and the best thing is, I can do the work when I choose to.
