Teacher believe online quizzes can build vocabulary.

Our common misconception of everything educational is that they’re only for the highly intellectual. This seems to hold especially true whenever there are difficult English words concerned, and most of us begin to stop paying attention to these. However, learning these does not have to be a hard process. Several books, magazines, and websites have vocabulary quizzes to facilitate the process, and they can even be kind of enjoyable.

The biggest advantage of vocabulary quizzes is that they don’t really take up a lot of time to test your ability to understand words less spoken. They are generally multiple-choice tests, since the identification test type would make it unnecessarily difficult in this case. It’s also easier than the uninitiated might expect, since questions in most quizzes often have context clues. But just because the construction of these is geared upon making learning words easier doesn’t mean that you’ll get every single word on the first go. More often than not, you’ll probably get many questions wrong before you can get it correctly. But don’t worry too much when this happens, as its all part of the game.

They make learning new words a whole lot more fun to do too, since most vocabulary quizzes –especially online ones –have sound effects and interesting visuals to keep the pace going. So if you’re looking to teach a friend in the lore of word mastery, then this is the best and surefire way to go. Some websites probably have less bows and frills than others, but they sure beat the ancient pastime of wading through thousands of words in your dictionary to find the more obscure words that seem to evade your intellectual grasp.

In most cases, the meaning of a word is explained through the introduction of a brief etymology, and it can give you a deeper insight on its meaning. Learning the root of a hard vocabulary word can help you see how the word was originally conceptualized. Neologisms and portmanteaus –relatively new words and a blend of two or more words, respectively –are possible and easier to make if you can practice accuracy in word use and application. Vocabulary quizzes are very helpful in this matter.

With that said, they can easily widen your use of English words. The most immediate result is that this can help you express yourself better. How you are feeling, what you like, what you hate, and what you love will all be easier to explain. Furthermore, your knowledge of the world deepens in this way, as well as the knowledge that you have of the history involved in the etymologies. While it may also take a while to get used to the idea that vocabulary quizzes are not for every person, it may also take a while to fully absorb the words’ full meanings and descriptions. But with an open mind and a whole lot of patience, learning through these quizzes are both rewarding and satisfying, and they’re definitely for everyone.
